North Musicians Supergroup In Bid To Save Newcastle City Hall...
A Supergroup of North East musicians have joined forces to release a single aimed at saving one of Newcastle's iconic venues. Written by songwriter Steve Daggett, the track, 'Save The City Hall', features Roxy Music's Paul Thompson, Lindisfarne's Ray Jackson and Charlie Harcourt, ex-Sting counterpart John Hedley, bass player Steve Martin and the group Prelude. The group hope the song will encourage more people to join protests to keep open the 85-year-old venue, which is currently under threat because of budget cuts. The wines of Tenuta il Palagio, Tuscany, Italy - Biodynamic wines from Sting's Tuscan estate...
Il Palagio is the 350 hectare Tuscan estate owned by musician Sting and his wife Trudie Styler. Sting has assembled a dream team to work his estate, with Alan York giving viticultural advice (the entire estate is run biodynamically), Paolo Caciorgna overseeing the winemaking and terroir expert Pedro Parra helping keep the soils in order. The estate was in disrepair when they purchased it in 1999, and the vineyards were replanted over the next couple of years. Newcastle arts cuts are disastrous, say stars of north-east - Artists including Sting, Neil Tennant, Bryan Ferry and Mark Knopfler have written to the Guardian expressing alarm...
In Gateshead, arts organisations such as the Baltic centre for contemporary art and the Sage are protected from deep local authority cuts – unlike in Newcastle. A host of artists connected to north-east England – including musicians Sting, Neil Tennant, Bryan Ferry, Mark Knopfler and Thomas Allen, writers such as Pat Barker and Tony Harrison, and actors including Robson Green and Kevin Whately – have written to the Guardian expressing "alarm" at what they call Newcastle city council's "shortsighted attack" on the city's cultural life. The artists are protesting against the local authority's plan to cut completely its £2.5m culture budget. The council, argue the artists, risk "throwing away a shared cultural heritage... built up by generations and generations of ordinary people in the city." Its decision, they say, is "baffling"...

It maybe a rainy Thursday night, but that didn't dampen the spirits of thousands of fans at Sting's 'Back To Bass' World Tour concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The man himself appeared at 8.30 pm sharp and clad in a simple grey shirt and jeans, he opened the stage with crowd favourite 'If I Ever Lose My Faith In You'. Backed by an impressive five-piece band, Sting's legendary bass skills and rich vocals quickly got his fans to jump (yes, jump!) and sway wildly in their seats. All the ladies were soon swooning over the 61-year-old Sting (Dude didn't look a day over 30) as he belted out 'Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic' next. That track was later followed up by 'Englishman In New York', and the atmosphere got really heated with everyone chorusing and clapping to the song...

Sting was full of power and energy when performing the Bangkok concert as part of his Back to Bass Tour on Wednesday night. The English singer-songwriter sang powerfully and played his bass energetically almost non-stop during the two-hour concert at the 12,000-seat Impact Arena, which was slightly more than half full. For a man 61 years of age, that was fantastic. Yet Sting - whose real name is Gordon Sumner - still has a physique and energy enviable to most men his age. He was involved in every one of the 22 songs performed that night and took only brief breaks during the three encores featuring five songs, including 'Every Breath You Take' and 'Next to You' - the classic hits from his time with the Police.
